The Design & Technology programme is largely coursework based. It aims to harness the creative and inquisitive instinct of pupils to bring it to fruition through problem-solving approach in the design process. Pupils are engaged in self-directed learning and time management in working on the coursework. They are also taught to apply thinking skills, the elements of design and to develop an appreciation of aesthetics. It is a compulsory programme for Lower Secondary pupils in the Express / Normal course and is optional at the Upper Secondary level.

Objectives

  • To promote problem solving design activity.
  • To develop appropriate technical skills to enable the realisation of solutions to design problems.
  • To develop knowledge of a range of materials, the appropriate manipulative skills and some aspects of technological activity.
  • To develop appropriate graphical skills to enable full engagement in design activity
  • To promote the use of information technology in research and design work
